A lot of people seem to have this totally fly over their heads. I saw the trailers for the movie and expected another Transformers, SFX for all your money.
When I started watching the movie though I noticed something wasn't just right.

Aliens are the Good Guys
We(U.S Navy) are the Bad Guys.
The movie just makes quite a good job with camouflaging this in regular Blockbuster Cheesiness. Which almost everyone seem to be blind to.
The movie is a direct documentation about how hellish and pointless war is.


There are quite a few good tells about why this is a Anti-War movie.
1. Humans in the movie are very aggressive and dumb.
2. Aliens never want to kill anyone.
3. Aliens have no Military Grade Weapons.

1. First off, the human guy is an *beep* and aggressive to the max.
This movie starts off when a guy who shouldn't never have been in command gets command, Heck, The guy shouldn't even EVER have been in the navy if it wasn't because he was forced in.

So this guy who we know has anger issues and quite a drunk as well. Gets to command the first ever contact with aliens, and he gets to do it with Guns, Cruise Missiles and Torpedoes. Had it been any other commander, or just anyone who had been thought to Think they might have stopped for a moment to wonder why the Aliens weren't killing them on the spot, instead of simply countering threats.But what we get is a angry teenager who basically starts a war over some damn misunderstanding.

Then the Cheesiness continues, and this is why I actually really Like this movie
The whole movie is made as if WE are right, as if we actually have a brave hero on our side, struggling to make sure the evil aliens doesn't get what they want.
This includes all the scenes which you expect from other blockbuster movies, the epitome being when our "hero" recruits the help of old navy veterans in order to continue his "Righteous War" against the "Evil Aliens"

2. The Aliens Are Passive, Never firing unless first fired upon.
For those of us who saw the small hints we understand that what the hero does is constantly seek out conflict. Even if the Aliens never fire a single shot until they are fired upon. When they send off their Balls Of Doom its obvious they only target military equipment and any Infrastructure that would be able to resupply such equipment.

The point about the aliens not wanting to hurt anyone is made extra clear with the scene where the Ball stops in front of a child, re-planning its route in order to destroy the highway without hurting it. How Much Clearer Can It be?

And sure a few people probably die during the destruction of the highway, but in real life I'm quite sure none expects 0 civilian causalities when attacking "military targets". This is something the US army is famous for!

3. the Aliens Weaponry.
This is another point where people seem to watch this movie expecting the regular Blockbuster, and then hate this movie because it isn't.
The Aliens Have No Military Weapons.
Never in the entire movie do we see an alien person carry or use any sort of long range weaponry. This is where the blockbuster people go "They traveled 100 light-years

but cant use guns!" Which is extremely narrow minded.
Everything about the aliens weaponry becomes more clear when you understand that they are the Good Aliens.
They didn't expect a war so they didn't Bring Weapons!
The only thing we see on a personal level is an engineering tool the aliens seems to use a lot more for setting up their generators than to actually fight with.
The Satchel-Bombs they fire of their ship are actually terrible weapons for just about any battle situation, the only reason they work at all is because we humans have such slow ships.

It comes out quite clear for anyone who actually watched the movie that the aliens aren't coming here for War, they come here because they are fleeing from war.
If anything I would say these aliens are some sort of Miners, they aren't equipped for battles, they merely use whatever tools they have to defend themselves when they are under attack.



So Basically what the movie is Really about is about a peaceful race of aliens who recieve a message from an aperantly peaceful race.
They see this as perhaps a way out of their own wars in some way, perhaps by seeking assylum here.
We then greet them by fireing upon them, trying to kill them even if they aren't even fireing at us and they just have some small Mining vessels.
So when they realize their misstake they would of course want to make sure to report back home that is is a trap, something that our hero cant allow for sure!

If you watch this movie expecting a Transformers movie where the good guys are heroic in a good fashion and the heroes saves the day, you will be severely disappointing.
If you watch this movie as a satire on War itself, where stupid mistakes and miscommunications leads to full out war with tons and tons of innocents dying. You will really enjoy Battleship.

It really saddens me when I notice people give this movie bad reviews just because they didn't see the movie as it was supposed to.
This movie opened my eyes, In the future I will make sure to watch these sorts of movies with a more open mind.
I don't believe I would be able to see movies like Independence Day in new light though, and it is sorta sad how blockbuster movies often manage to build up a mountain of evils actions on the aliens account, making the "Heroes" fight justified.

Battleship doesn't do that, It puts the regular Blockbuster Patriotism into a setting where it becomes totally destructive, not only preventing the Aliens and Humans to communicate, but also both sides losing many many lives in the process.

es isch en fucking film man! wenn die waffe im film vode aliens au na uf 1000000km gnau würded treffe, wär de film circa 31minute gange, bis zur minute 30 gseht me ja keis alien, LOL, zudem ide nacht schüsseds au mal us wieterer distanz!
und würded die dumme navy mongos bim erschte kontakt scho ship to ship missiles isetze und sich nid nach 1minute versenke loh, wär de film 42 minute gange und nid 2h!
