In the Lonely Planet guide for Iran it will tell you the best shopping is Vanak Square or Valiasr Avenue. What a big fib & for me a waste of a day and USD15 in taxi fare. There is meant to be 9km of shopping according to the guide, maybe 9 metres but definitely not worth wasting the day. Add to that, their advise to go to Jamm-e Jam Shopping Centre....well Jamm-e Jam is the capital's TV & News Centre. Our taxi driver was confused as to why we wanted to go there and when presented with 30 men with various automatic weapons on arrival at J-e-J, so were we. When we explained the book said it was a Shopping Centre and a game of book showing & charades went on, we were finally turned away swiftly, with our taxi driver throwing us out at the next corner.
Head to the Bazaar, it is simplier.
