Your latest album ‘Heavy Metal Fruit’ came out in January and it’s the third in under two years. Are you already working on new material?
Yup! We've recorded our last several tours on 24-track, and are at the moment sifting through all those hours hoping to find some nuggets worthy of release. We have this on-off series we call 'Roadwork', and this would be Volume 4. We are also writing new music and collaborating with Ståle Storløkken from Elephant9/Supersilent on something a bit more ...epic, but we'll have to wait and see where that takes us!
How do you compare ‘Heavy Metal Fruit’ to your debut ‘Lobotomizer’, how much has changed for Motorpsycho and how?
Oh, that's a lifetime you're talking about here, so in short? Everything!
But we're still a hard rocking little trio that does this because we love it, and if we're a bit smarter and experienced than we were 20 years ago, there is no better life and nothing else we'd be happy doing, so it's all good: we've been priviledged enough to be able to do our own thing in our own tempo and actually life off this thing of ours for the last 15 years, so we have no complaints!
You still release all of your album in vinyl and your 20th anniversary album ‘Child of the Future’ was released on vinyl only. Would you explain this choice and what vinyl represents for you?
This is obviously flying the flag for less disposable media like the LP as opposed to the mp3s and what-have-yous of the digital age. We like owning tangible objects more than we like owning 'virtual' media. The physical dimention makes an LP more 'real' than a file, and thus it feels better to make an LP, to own an LP, and to play an LP than a file. It actually feels a bit pointless to spend all this time and energy on making something you can't even touch properly... I guess we're old fashioned, but this is who we are! We like the sound, the smell and the whole ritual surrounding the playing of an album on a turntable. Shoot us!
Do you consider your live shows to be still as good as they used to?
What a strange question! We obviously feel like we have something great to offer, if not we wouldn't charge people money to see us play, would we? a MP-gig is a different thing now than it was when we started, but that's all I could really tell you! I don't think I'm the guy to ask this question. Sorry!
You have one of the most loyal fan bases known to rock; how did you achieve that and to finish, is there anything you would like to tell your fans?
I think we found a spot for our little rock group in a nitch somewhere between other 'loose' rock groups and electric jazz groups that no other band occupies. It's become it's own thing, something bigger than us, and we're just trying to keep up with the Muse and going where she leads us. We're not for everyone, but mean a lot to some, and that's exactly where we want to be. The fans know, and the rest of you can find out if you come on over on the 24th!

schiins ganz und gar nöd. isch vomne gig in london vo geschter wo's 2, 3 churzi liedli (inkl 2 neue wo rächt abgöhnd) und susch nume viertelstünder aneballered händ. und bi 3 stuck händs sogar gsandwiched, aso anderi stuck zwüschineghebt. macht 8 songs i 90min.
Up to Christmas to Bent and Thomas Henriksen mix finished a livepate - "Road Works 4" which will document the MP as they have emerged alive after they had with Kenneth Kapstad on drums and ended up in a creative zone that led to three albums in two and a half years.
- I'm going to Thomas Henry this afternoon to the mix. If we do not have chunks fully with the committee then mixed the album be finished by Christmas - and ready for release in the spring.
And the format?
- It will probably be at least a double vinyl. Our songs are the up to a quarter and it is a little short of three songs on a live album, is not it?

Kumpel hett mir damals grad nach em Release ohni mis Erkänne d'Cake vorgspielt und öppe bim sächste Stuck han en gfrööget was er da eigetli komischs Hippieretrobluemepoppigs losi. Han ich grad e chli gar gschtuunet. No unbedarft han ich sie hübsch gfunde, nach Ufklärig zersch mal unglöibig gsi, dänn mal wieder baff ab ihrer Souveränität wie sie mit verschiedenschte Schtil umgöhnd und mit weler Liechtigkeit sie sone Kehrtwendi gmacht händ, als öb's s'Normalschte überhaupt wär.
Mir gfalled beid sehr, d'Phanerothyme meh als d'Cake, los sie mittlerwiile aber sicher am wenigschte vo allne, mit de Usnahm vo de urchige allererschte beide, wo ich aber zu ihrer Ziit au z'totglost han. Ich bin mir drfür au nie sicher weles Stuck eigetli uf welem Album isch, wo ich susch d'Titellischte vo jedere andere im letschte Delirium no chönnt brav ufsäge. Uf Cake findi Upstairs/Downstairs, The Other Fool, Stained Glass (live anderscht, no länger und fantastisch), Never Let You Out mit de früeche Pink Floyd Referänze und s'grossartige 30/30 (niemert traut sich so öppis) super. Uf de Phanerothyme alles usser de B.S., de isch doch e chli naja... herzig. Zwüschine händs die dräckige Stuck us dere Phase ja no uf dr Barracuda usegäh, au super. Glow vor allem. Bin aber nöd unglücklich gsi wo sich de Rock drufabe uf dr imo beschte us dere poppige Phase - It's a Love Cult - wieder spürbar füredrängt hett.
die beschte videoclips händs i dere ziit gmacht. 90% vom Sony-Budget für The Slow Phaseout usetätscht (wo drfür uf youtube wäge lizänze offebar nöd zluege isch) und mit em Räschte und enere 8mm Kamera de eigetli viel besser gmacht:
