After one evening with Rocksmith I went from total novice to being able to play one song, now it was riddled with errors and I know that the game did hold back on giving me the full set of notes but the song was starting to appear in there and the sense of achievement has driven me on. At the end of the week I not only can play a number of songs quite reasonably but I now have a number of excellent riffs that I can bang out at any time.

We have had mixed reviews from expert guitar players who have found the game a little dull, I guess if you can play the songs perfectly anyway there is little appeal here. If like me you have always dreamed of learning guitar but have struggled with traditional lessons then this is an amazing tool.

Brand new Bass mode: The game will include the brand new Bass mode, offering players the opportunity to play bass guitar on all supported on-disc and downloadable songs. Not only can players play the bass parts of songs, but bassists of all experience levels can also improve their skills with dedicated bass technique challenges and tutorial videos. Players can even use any 6-string guitar to emulate a 4-string bass. Tracking their learning has never been easier as bass progression is tracked separately from guitar progression.

Amp Mode

Amp Mode essentially turns the respective platform into a customizable amp, featuring a wide range of pedals and amp settings. The game defaults to proper amp settings during the main gameplay so songs sound as they should, but through Amp Mode settings can be changed to experiment with different sounds. During any song players can activate any one of three mapped "custom tones".

While in the Amp mode players are given three pedal slots in each of the three different positions [Pre / Loop / Post]. Combinations of different pedals and different placements can be used to make unique tones, and these tones can be saved and used later either in the amp mode or mapped to a button and used during gameplay.

The game offers preset "custom tones" based on the songs "qualified" for during game play.
