Need more consumable items to fight the ridiculously hard bosses when playing on normal mode? Well that's easy, you need to spend your money on consumable items like revive/health potions. Except you don't get money from winning fights, you get them from selling mob drops which are very rare, or one-time pickups on the map. The other way is you buy money (gald) in the DLC shop.
DLC to increase inventory above 15 of any item, because once you've bought the gald, you're gonna want to stock up on items, so it's nice of them to let us buy this.
Skill point gain is incredibly slow, so it's very convenient they gave us some DLC to double the amount gained. It also comes with double XP gain.
Spending real money on consumables is for suckers though. The real value is buying levels. You can level up your characters 40 times with DLC. The game even introduces a powerful level 40 enemy very early in the game to give you a little nudge.
You might be thinking now "well these things are for people who are bad at gmes, surely my pro gamer skills will get me through without needing any of this"
Well yes, you'll get through, but not without frustration as you retry boss battles over and over again, trying to conserve your limited amount of healing resource as much as possible with the limited amount of healing consumables the game gives you.
The exception is the dlc artifact that doubles SP gained from battle.
This is where Namco spits in your face because basic abilities (some of which have been mainstays for the entire series) are also locked in the costume dlcs since they unlock titles. Each of 6 costume packs unlock a title for half the cast. This means that if you fail to buy the ultimate edition of the game you will have to spend an extra $42 canadian dollars to have all of the titles and abilities in the game.
Yes I've completed the game out of my love for the series and had to grind longer than I should have just because of the artificially slowed down progression
