---------IGN hat geschrieben:Sonic 4 is a nice blending of classic Sonic with a few wrinkles to make it feel fresh. Obviously, the idea was to recreate the experience of the first Sonic -- the thrill of finding new pathways, the anxiety of trying to get through a level without losing your rings -- and SEGA did so beautifully. But, this is called Sonic 4 and as such, I'd love to have seen more of a progression from the game I played as a kid. At the very least, I'd like to see some of the things introduced in Sonic 2 and 3 (like co-op!) instead of fully regressing back to the first game.
The one significant gameplay addition (for a side-scrolling console Sonic game) is the lock-on targeting system. You can now easily target an enemy or a bumper and fly straight at it. This isn't just for fun; it's required to get past some parts of Sonic. It's a big change for a classic Sonic side-scroller, but it doesn't ruin anything. I guess if you're a purist, you'll hate this. But, really, if you are a purist, just go play a port of the original game. And it's not like the lock-on hasn't been used in DS versions of Sonic over the past decade.
Now, maybe it's because I spent so many hours of my youth playing Sonic the Hedgehog, but Sonic 4 is a breeze. This game's pretty easy, with only some moderate challenges in the four zones. Even the once annoying water sequences are designed to make it fairly easy to survive without running out of air. The one exception is the final boss stage, which has you fighting advanced versions of all four boss battles, plus a ridiculous ultimate boss. It's unfairly long and difficult in comparison to the rest of the game. I don't mind hard, but the difficulty spike comes out of nowhere.

Präsentation 7.0
It's like a blast from the past. The Sonic I fell in love with.
Grafik: 8.0
It might not be flashy, but it's done right and looks great.
Sound 7.0
The music is suitably Sonic -- that is, cheesy, but catchy.
Gameplay 8.0
The lock-on targeting works well. There's not much else that is new, but Sonic doesn't need much else to be great.
Dauerspaß 8.0
Sure, it's really short, but the point of a Sonic game is replaying the levels and finding new pathways.

Radiant Silvergun
