Nintendo 3DS Region Locked
Nintendo of Japan statement suggests software will be restricted.

Nintendo's much-anticipated 3DS handheld will apparently be region-locked, meaning that software will only work on hardware from the corresponding territory.
That could be bad news for anyone hoping to import the console upon its release in Japan on February 26, or those hoping to sample any of the games that won't make it over to their own shores.
Confirmation seemingly came from an email from Nintendo of Japan, spotted and translated by NeoGAF. While region-locking is historically commonplace on home consoles (Sony's PS3 a recent exception), handhelds have traditionally been free from the restriction – that is until the release of Nintendo's DSi and DSi XL which introduced the feature.
European and American customers may not have to wait too long for the release of the 3DS, however, with the current March release window for those territories expected to be narrowed down to a specific date next week.
IGN has reached out to Nintendo for further clarification and comment, and we're awaiting a reply.

Not all 3DS games will necessarily be in 3D, according to Nintendo legend Shigeru Miyamoto.
"It's compatible with software for previous Nintendo DS systems, which will be viewed in the 2D mode," he explained in Nintendo's latest 'Iwata Asks'.
"New game cards, however, will be specific to Nintendo 3DS, but whether they will be in 3D or not is basically up to the maker, just like how much to use the touchscreen was up to developers for Nintendo DS.
"Suddenly requesting all the game developers to only make 3D games on game cards exclusive to the Nintendo 3DS from now on would really raise the hurdle for them," he added.
"We thought it would be better for developers, as well as players, if they could do as they please depending on the software, having images jump out just a little or making games based significantly on 3D."
So creating a 3D game isn't a prerequisite for developing on the 3DS - and with 3D effects halving the frame rate from 60fps to 30, we reckon there'll be a lot of studios with their own visions of 2D magic.
Also covered in Iwata Asks was the Nintendo president's desire to see the new handheld offer 3D video recording in the future. Here's hoping.
Will 3DS games cost £40?
Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata has said that 3DS games will likely be more expensive than standard DS ones, although he doesn't expect there to be too much of a cost difference.
We'll hopefully find out what the premium is next week at a 3DS press event in Amsterdam, but retailers have already begun listing titles for pre-order with RRPs of £34.99 and £39.99, MCV reports.
While existing DS titles carry a typical RRP of between £30 and £35, GAME and The Hut are listing multiple 3DS titles with an RRP of £39.99, £5 more than those listed by Indie retailer ShopTo.
Earlier this week, it was rumoured that 3DS will release in the UK on or around March 25 for £200-£230.
3DS might support 3D video recording
3DS will boast a 3D camera when it launches in Japan next month, allowing users to take 3D snaps, but Nintendo president Satoru Iwata would also like the new handheld to support 3D video recording capabilities.
Speaking in the latest episode of the Iwata Asks series of interviews, he said: "I think it will be fun if we're able to include video recording capabilities with future updates."
That's it. Nothing set in stone, but it seems like a logical next step.
